This years Aspires Project Summer Activities needed to be approached in a very different way to previous years, the COVID-19 situation presenting us with a challenge. By ensuring CovidSafe measures are in place, together with our ever resourceful team and generous funding from The Three Guineas Trust, we have been able to create an exciting programme of events for our young people to enjoy outdoors and at home.
We have been able to offer all young people currently accessing the project, activity sessions in our brand new Sensory Space at the Centre in Pool. The secondary aged young people have accessed in addition, an outdoor adventure activity session with Centres across Cornwall. Whilst offering these fantastic options, the team were aware that there were young people unable to access ‘in person’ activities. Therefore, we created an activity pack with each young person receiving a canvas ‘goody’ bag filled with exciting activities such as, a baking set, clay, canvas and paints, a white t-shirt and fabric pens, a mug with porcelain pens and even a hot chocolate kit – a Dreadnought session essential! These creative activities will be used during the ongoing online video groups, continuing through the summer. Hopefully bringing a little bit of “The Dreadnought Centre” into their own homes.
As always we look forward to welcoming all young people back in person one day but in the meantime, we will continue to support them as best we can.
